Portrait of a Monster

A short piece of flash fiction, from yours truly, published on Sutter Press…

Sutter Press

Long, sharp talons.

A disfigured, mashed-up face.

Beady predatory eyes, glowing with an intensity that reflects its hunger.

This is how he imagines himself stripped bare, naked, for all to see.

In another world, that is. Another time, another universe, another reality.

One in which he appears purely and truly as he is.

In this world though, he’s just another face, with callused human hands & bright blue human eyes.

Nobody sees his true face here.

Nobody knows he’s something to fear.

A monster that devours whoever it can sink its teeth into.
